A key pillar of S3V's sustainable development policy is waste reduction and recovery. Because reducing and recovering waste is a good way to limit the use of natural resources, energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and also to preserve our beautiful mountain landscapes, S3V is implementing concrete actions.
S3V operates its own waste collection centers at the Altipôle business park in Courchevel and in Méribel-Mottaret. The goal is to centralize and sort waste by category for better recycling. The waste is then collected by a service provider who transports it to sorting centers in the Savoie region, from where it is sent to the appropriate recycling facilities . Our initiatives include:
- Installation of waste sorting bins on the ski area to encourage sorting
- Mountain Riders awareness panel set up in the ski area.
- Bandage recycling CO2 saving pebble
- Communication for fight against food waste in S3V canteens.
- 100% recycled ticketing

Previously, rolls of paper towels were used to mop, clean and degrease mechanical parts. Today, we use rags and absorbent mats in the two garages in Mottaret and Courchevel, as well as during line maintenance in June. These are then treated and cleaned by an approved supplier. No more paper waste!
Bio-oil (or bio-lubricant) for snow groomers
Previously, conventional oil (composed of hydrocarbons) was used in each snow groomer, i.e. approximately 100 litres. Today, the S3V management assumes an additional purchase cost for the oil for the hydraulic circuits of the crawler tractors. They are now filled withOrganic oil of vegetable origin or biolubricant.
A biolubricant is a lubricant made up of components that decompose relatively quickly in the soil and are less toxic to flora and fauna.
A biolubricant must be decomposed in the soil by microorganisms to at least 70% into water, CO2 and other organic compounds within 28 days. In addition to these properties, it is necessary that a biolubricant be made with at least 50% renewable raw materials, that is, vegetable oil.
If a snow groomer leaks, the oil can still spill onto the slopes. However, with a 100% synthetic biodegradable lubricant, it is a reduced impact on the environment.
FOCUS – Recycling of used rubber
We collect all our used rubber : mats, gratings, gravel tires, etc.)
The idea is to recycle this raw material through a specialized company. We are also covering the cost of transporting these supplies.
Next, recycled rubber will represent 50% of the new floor tiles which are used mainly for the floors of ski lifts.
In 2023, 6,800 kg of rubber waste were recovered and used to manufacture 2,720 tiles, saving 47,600 kg of CO2!
