The red track Les Creux is accessible to as many skiers. Its red classification is due to its length rather than its difficulty. In fact, with almost 1000 meters elevation and a distance of over 4 km, it is a beautiful ballad that is offered to you on a very varied track. You will enjoy a splendid panorama of the Cirque de la Pointe Emilienne on the Aiguille du Fruit, and all the Massif Chanrossa.

This track was recently reworked by S3V to improve the course and also equip the route in artificial snowmaking that allow opening of the sector from the beginning to the end of the winter season.

This time, it’s by a legendary track in Courchevel that we begin our series. The Jean Blanc, black famous track in Courchevel Le Praz, is named with one of the founder fathers of Courchevel, Mr Jean Blanc. It was in the 50s led to the development of skiing in the alpine resorts of France.

When the skier sits down on the chairlift and lowers the safety bar, it is automatically locks in place, as required by the regulations. It is then impossible to lift the bar either by mistake (or by design) until you arrive at the top. Just before the top of the lift, the safety bar unlocks automatically to allow the skier to alight in complete safety and peace of mind. This new 10 seats gondola  (Lenght 3178 m , 734 m of vertical rise) replaces the first two sections of the old Plattières gondola. It will take 9 minutes (against 22 previously) to reach the summit.

Christophe Charrière, S3V technical director, guides us through the maintenance requirements that must undergo the gondola every 5 years.
Everything is fully controlled with a magnetic system. CND, nondestructive testing, allows a product with iron base, identify the smallest cracks or welding problems. Originally a small hamlet midway between Courchevel and Méribel: The Tagna. His name meant “Bear’s Den” in the Savoyard dialect. Until the early twentieth century, the forests were inhabited Tarentaise bear. Then the bear disappears from the valley, driven by people who saw it as a threat.

In the late 1980s, the common Perrière chooses to implement a ski resort near the hamlet. The architect Jacques Labro (1968 Bracket money for Avoriaz) is responsible for preserving this magical place by integrating wood construction. December 22, 1990 when the station opens, one name stands for itself: La Tania.

A year later, on the occasion of the Olympic Games in Albertville, La Tania is chosen as Olympic Village annex to accommodate athletes and journalists.

Today, the newest of the 3 Valleys has 4000 tourist beds and has retained a human scale, the heart of the largest ski area in the world.

That is why it has developed with the company SOMMITAL (www.magnestick.net/) the MAGNESTICK KID  (World 1st) and MAGNESTICK  BAR (World 1st) , and it is further distinguished by creating SECURITY Patrols (a first in France)

THE  MAGNESTICK BAR : The Société des 3 Vallées (S3V) equips  for this winter 2012/2013 its chairlifts (On Courchevel, La Tania and Méribel-Mottaret) with the Magnestick Bar. It is a safety bar locking system which can be lift up only after its release at the arrival station. This new innovation is a world first.

THE SECURITY PATROL: For the first time in France, S3V creates  ”Security Patrols.” These teams will conduct prevention activities, information and awareness of safety on the slopes. This initiative is motivated by the desire to permanently associate pleasure of skiing and safety.

It is therefore at the Tania gondola we look forward to seeing you in this episode to makes you discover the breathtaking panorama you can find at the top. Relaxation, family walks, meals on the terrace, everything is allowed, as long as the environment is incredibly respected.

You will also find in this summer “What a Track” show, many small timelapse to live more intensely the moments that we spent on top of these beautiful mountains.

With about 1.2 million skiers per ski season, the  Biollay chairlift is the most used of the Courchevel valley. It will be replaced for the winter 2012/2013 by a new chairlift with  the following characteristics:
- 6 seats (instead of 4)
- Uphill capacity of 3300 skiers per hour (instead of 2500)
- Manufacturer POMAGALSKI for an investment of 7 million euros

The main steps of this work in progress:

In this first part you can follow the helicopter spare parts. Indeed many parts need to be changed, disassembled, overhauled, and of course re-installed at the top of the posts. Why the intervention of a helicopter is essential. It comes when everything is ready to be loaded and transported. Each charge is specifically listed and collaboration between teams S3V and the helicopter pilot is essential for smooth operations.

Saulire depuis Courchevel

Direction to the highest resort in Europe, Val Thorens, to go skiing on one of the highest peak of the 3 Valleys, the Cime Caron.

So welcome to over 3200 meters to first admire a splendid view of all the Italian and French Alps. Indeed, the metal structure cabin, built by Poma in 1982, takes you straight to the top of the Cime Caron. From there, a mythical black slope awaits the best skiers, the Combe de Caron.

You will start by a thick wall stiff enough to put you in his leg, which moves on a side road to rest, and finally you will reach the original route of the trail that offers a healthy dose of sports!

Because the melting of glaciers has accelerated in recent years, the original route had to be modified because of a crag that has gradually emerged in the middle of the track. So we created this road which skirts the rocky ledge. It offers a much gentler slope than it was before, which allows you to rest before tackling the second part of the trail much steeper.

COURCHEVEL-LA TANIA
- The ski resort of Courchevel Valley remains fully open until 22 April inclusive. Only doubling lifts will gradually close, to adjust the  capacity of the ski lifts to the  attendance. The ski slopes will remain open until their snow coverv permits. All resorts of Courchevel valley will be connected together.
- From 23 April the ski area will focus in Courchevel 1850, with the major axis to the altitude range open.
- The urban connections via cable car  are insured up to April 27 included between Courchevel Le Praz and Courchevel 1850 on the one hand and between Courchevel 1550 and Courchevel 1850  on the other.
- The connections for the 3 Vallées  will remain open until the end of the season, April 27 included

MERIBEL-MOTTARET
- Mottaret ski area remains open in full until 27 April inclusive. (The proximity Arolles and Table Verte chairlifts  will be closed from April 21).
- The ski slopes will remain open until their snow cover  permits.
- The 3 Valleys links will be provided until 27 April inclusive (By 1850 Courchevel / Les Menuires and Val Thorens)

Your safety on the ski area is in the hands of those professionals who are able to respond within minutes to any location in the ski area. Just on the Courchevel sector, they are 8 to take turns to repatriate you to the station in case of fall or accident.
Knees, shoulders, handles, these are all very sensitive parts of the body, especially when practicing winter sports.
Always remember that despite the presence of ski patrols should always be master of your velocity, your behavior on the slopes, and especially wear appropriate equipment. Indeed, much progress has been made ​​in recent years for safety, and wear protective helmets or as back protectors now seems obvious to avoid a lot of breaks!
Finally note that if you leave the marked trails, this is at your own risk, and that we must never forget to wear equipment suitable for paging in avalanche.

We were glad to meet Jean Berard and Gilbert Garnier who were at the origins of the Trail of Folyères in the ski area of La Tania.
The current pine forests above the resort of La Tania, were in the 30s just pasture. All the space was cultivated and maintained by the inhabitants of the time who lived on garden production. A little later, when the winter sports have grown, the gardens have been gradually abandoned by the new generations, and this is the forest that has reclaimed its rights.
The track of Folyères was originally a route traced at the time by Emile Allais, descending from the Col de la Loze to Brides les Bains. When the resort of La Tania emerged, he was immediately subject to re-empower the path into a real nice track to ski.
So we had of course secure the entire track and remove hardwood become too dangerous around the track. Today is a magnificent track perfectly integrated into the landscape which contributes to the conservation of pine forest around. This red run is long and offers a panoramic view. In fact you get off the track but I never saw a single lift in your landscape. From the top you have a view on the Vanoise Glaciers and mountain crumbling gypsum, iconic landscape of the Courchevel Valley.
We would like to especially thank Mr Peter Grunberg, ESF instructor, 80 years old, which made us kind enough to accompany us to present the show with us. Les Chapelets track is one of his favorite tracks and that is why he was keen to discover the general public.

Tomorrow, Thursday 23/02, the team Snowpark Courchevel gives you an appointment for a battle giant snowball. The setting is amazing with stunning views, and especially ideal playground. In fact, hidden behind many modules Family Park, you will deliver to a war without thank you against the onslaught of snow from all sides!

The Combe de la Saulire early morning ….

surveys and figures about the safety of ski areas.
For several years, The Society organizes the 3 Valleys satisfaction surveys of its customers, skiers. From the results, a sense of insecurity is shared by some of skieurs.Des national surveys were able to prove the effectiveness of protections put in place by operators now have to change the behavior of skiers themselves.

It was a solution to this concern.
Two measures were introduced by the S3V on the field of Meribel-Mottaret. Firstly a poster campaign was designed by the field teams who wanted to respond to perceived customer. The Jerusalem Trail is primarily a track for a incredible journey in the Three Valleys. It is accessible to as many people and can easily reach the village of Saint Martin de Belleville from the peaks of Méribel. Quality snow, a hilly course, we believe almost doing off piste!

The Jerusalem is also steeped in history, and that is why it bears that name. Indeed, during the second world war, the Savoyards have allowed people fleeing from the Germans face to hide in the many barns (called montagnette) around the track. They have thus managed to escape the enemies for the duration of the war.
Then for many years, during the summer, this track was an important place of pilgrimage for families, an important place of resistance and collective memory. That is why it is called The Jerusalem as a tribute to victims.

That’s why the track is also called Lac de la Chambre. In the 70s, this track was not one, but rather a route taken by all professionals, trackers and monitors, to return to Meribel, after a day trip in the Three Valleys.
Indeed, this Trail is located halfway between Meribel Mottaret, Les Menuires and arrivals of Val Thorens. This track had to be secured in 1974 because of the number of skiers who passed through the area, and we had to enable access to the largest number of skiers.

  In order to please mountain’s lovers and those who are impatient and dreaming since weeks to put skis on, Courchevel put all its efforts to maintain the opening of the resort on December 3rd. If the lack of snow at this period is unusual, Thierry Arnou, Meteo France forecaster, notices that it already happened 3 times in 30 years. So, while waiting to work on natural snow, Courchevel ski slopes employees are more motivated than ever and take good care of Verdons slope, preparing it with artificial snow. It will be the only slope opened during this first weekend, anyway the goal is pleasure and renew with the amazing sensations of skiing. Music will be played for skiers all day long for a festive atmosphere. Pedestrians will also be able to enjoy fresh air at the top of Verdons lift.
  Verdons Bar Restaurant will be open at the same time for everybody to enjoy drinks and food.
  And for a full pleasure, the ski and pedestrian passes will exceptionnally be free all week end as well as La Croisette car park!

  The Méribel valley plans to open its ski area on Saturday 10 December.

   

  MERIBEL SKI SEASON OPENING THE 10th DECEMBER

  A drop in temperature at the end of this week will allow increased production of artificial snow.Snowfalls are also expected soon. Our piste and lift technical teams are already working hard to ensure you will have the best skiing possible.

   

  The 3 Valleys links are also due to open on 10 December.

Maintenance of tracks from the top is reinforced to provide the best skiing possible until the end. Since Saturday, April 9 (instead of April 16th), discounts are applied tariff. As of April 16, they will apply on all our packages. As of Saturday, April 16, only the following stations will provide access to the ski area (for lifts)

• Praz Courchevel 1300/Le (For Praz gondola)
• Courchevel 1550 (By cable car Grangettes)
• Courchevel 1850 (By cable car Verdons + opening in the urban mode of Jardin Alpin gondola)
